We bought this city map along with the map of Florence for our recent visit. I also purchased several different colors of dry-erase pens and used them to map out places we wanted to visit. Using a different color we mapped the easiest route to all the different places. These maps folded up easy and were sturdy enough to carry in our backpack. I would defiantly purchase again, or purchase for other cities we plan to visit.
I bought several of these maps for my visit to Italy. I didn't care for them. Hard to read and the city is divided so you have to flip back and forth losing your place when trying to find directions. They are nicely made, but I wouldn't waste the money. Our taxi driver gave us a nice map of the city, as well as the hotel and they were much easier to use and read and FREE!
Laminated, this map will survive a trip. It's compact and easy to carry. However, it chops up the city into just 3 small portions. Hard to read due to its small scale, and hard to relate portions to the overall city. No detailed insets for the most popular sites, such as ancient Roman Forum. For the short-term tourist only interested in some portion of the city, it will suffice. But it really is not well done at all.
While this is a good map for planning and navigating any walking you want to do in Rome, if you have a smart phone, google maps is a better alternative.The pros: It takes up little room. You can unfold it quickly. It's got the main tourist attractions printed and the simplest routes to those attractions.
The map was too small to read the names on the roads. Additionally, it did not identify roads that stopped because of a grade change or historical obstructions. I bought the map as a plan B if my google maps did not work. Unfortunately, I needed the map and it was not helpful.
